Murdock looked as if he'd been hit in the stomach. "Where does that leave us?" He asked sadly. "Do you think that after everything we've been through that I could ever leave you?" She reached up and stroked his face. "I need to get this done and put it behind me. Do you understand?" He nodded. Pepper kissed him sweetly. "I'll be back as soon as I can, okay?" Just then, they heard sirens. B.A. pulled the van up. With one last look, Murdock jumped in the van. For the first time in her life, Pepper was going to have to fly solo. She smiled as she thought of everything she had learned from Murdock. "I hope this thing ends quickly. I want to get back home to my husband." After the agents pulled up, they came over to Pepper. "Are you Patricia Tremmont?" Pepper nodded. "I'm agent Fox Mulder and this is my partner agent Dana Scully." |
